Mikel Arteta admits that new signing Tomiyasu is what they needed in the squad.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that new signing Tomiyasu will give them the versatility they needed.
The Gunners completed the signing of the Japanese from Italian side Bologna before the end of the transfer window.
Mikel Arteta while speaking to the media stated that the Japanese is a versatile player can play anyehere in the back four.
He insisted that that they have been monitoring him before he was signed and admits he has the quality that will improve the squad.
“Tomi, first of all, because he’s got the capacity to play in any position in the back four, he has done it all across the back four and the back three as well,”Arteta said.
“He gives us that versatility. He gives different qualities in that right back position and is a player that we followed for a long time and he brings qualities that we didn’t have in this squad.”
It is not certain weather the new signing will be available to face Norwich this weekend as they seek to secure a work permit.
Though Tomiyasu have started training with his teammate since his arrival and Arteta further stated that he will assess the Japanese.
“We need the work permit first”, He added. The club is trying hard to achieve that in the next couple of hours. He’s back in the country right now.
“I will meet him for the first time today, probably, and train with him, see how he is and get a feel for it.
“He’s been playing so he should be completely fit and yeah, we’ve been impressed. That’s the reason why we decided to sign him.”
