Alan Shearer believes Arsenal are now a diffrent team from last season but insists the Gunners are not title contenders despite topping the league table.

British Pundit Alan Shearer believes Arsenal are now a different team but it is too early for them to be considered title contenders.

The Gunners reclaimed the first position on the Premier League table following their 3-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta side has been impressive this season as their only lost have come from longtime rival Manchester United.

In a column written by Alan Shearer on BBC, the former Newcastle United stated that everything about Arsenal from attack to defence is now different.

He added that the intensity, attitude and the way they dominated the games they played are just so different.

Shearer stated that he thought Brentford will hurt Arsenal the way they did last time in the Premier League but didn’t work out for the Bees.

“Everything was different about Arsenal this time – in attack and defence”, Shearer wrote in his column, “plus the way they controlled the game, and with their attitude and intensity. They ran out comfortable winners.

“Part of that was down to how bad Brentford were”, he added “but it was Arsenal’s performance that made the Bees play so poorly.

“I was expecting Brentford to come out flying, knowing what worked last time, and trying to hurt Arsenal. They tried to play that way again, but it didn’t work because they faced a very different Arsenal team.”

Allan Shearer believes that the Arsenal team are more committed and has Mikel Arteta to thank for that.

The Spaniard has managed to build a different team and change the mood of the team in a short period of time.

“Arteta has not just built a different team, he has transformed the mood of the whole club”, Shearer added in his column.

“He deserves great credit for that, because he got a lot of criticism after the way they started last season, with three straight defeats.

“This time, they have won six out of their first seven league games and go into the international break at the top of the table. They deserve it too.”

Shearer believes the main target for Arsenal right now is to get into the top four and qualify for the Champions League, as he claims they have not been doing bad.

The Pundit claims Arsenal’s result in their next two games against Tottenham and Liverpool with prove if they can pull through.

“I still think Arsenal’s main target is a return to the top four for the first time since 2016, and they have not done too much wrong so far.

“Their next two league games at the start of October, at home to Spurs and Liverpool, will tell us more about whether they can sustain this strong start but, right now, their fans will be enjoying what they are seeing.”
