Neville concern about United quality
Gary Neville has voiced his skepticism about Manchester United’s ability to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal this season. In his assessment, Neville highlights that the squad lacks the caliber of signings required for such a challenge, citing the absence of marquee additions like Harry Kane or Declan Rice.
Gary Neville attributes Manchester United’s sluggish start to the season to a deficiency in quality rather than a lack of commitment. He asserts that the summer signings have failed to enhance the team’s performance.
Manchester United, under Erik ten Hag, endured a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton on Saturday, placing them in 13th position in the Premier League standings, with only six points from their first five matches.
Neville labeled the defeat against Brighton as a “reality check” and emphasized that he wasn’t shocked, citing the noticeable gap in performance between Roberto De Zerbi’s team and Ten Hag’s.
Despite Manchester United’s hefty £183.5 million summer spending on new additions like Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, Sergio Reguilon, Jonny Evans, and Altay Bayindir, Neville believes these signings haven’t elevated the team’s overall quality.
“I was worried at the start of the season,” said the Sky Sports pundit on the latest Gary Neville Podcast.
“There was this feeling Manchester United had got their business done early in the transfer window and that was good, but I was concerned the players they had brought in wouldn’t improve them from last season.
