Shams Charania: James Harden wants to be on a winning NBA team; 76ers are top of list

Senior lead NBA Insider/Writer/Analyst for The Athletic and Stadium, Shams Charania, joined First Things First to discuss the latest reports around point guard James Harden and possible new trade options of the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets have the next move but Charania says Harden has made it know he wants to be on a winning NBA team and the Philadelphia 76ers are top of the list. Shams also digs into the Paul George max extension deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Harden has played 11 seasons for the Rockets and Thunder. His career averages are 25.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in 833 regular-season games. He has won one MVP Award and has been selected to play in eight All-Star Games.

Paul George is already set to make $35.4 million in 2020-21, and his new deal – worth roughly $190 million in total – will now tack on an additional four years to his contract, tying him to the Clippers through at least 2023-24 season.

George averaged 21.5 points on a career-high 41.2% shooting, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the regular season. He averaged 18.5 points on 34.7% in the Clippers’ first-round series against the Dallas Mavericks and attributed that partly to struggles with mental health.
