City issue statement after been charged with FFP
Manchester City have released a statement in response to the club’s alleged breaches of financial rules.
Manchester City have responded to Premier League after they are been charged with the Financial Fair play rule over the period of 9 years.
Manchester City’s alleged breaches date from the 2009/10 season right through to the 2017/18 season.
During that period, Man City won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three league cups and one Community Shield.
The club also spent over £1,000,000,000 in that time, signing players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Ederson, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero plus many more.
The statement reads: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
Manchester City will not be able to appeal any sanction to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned Man City’s UEFA ban in 2020 after the Citizens were set to be banned from the Champions League for two years.
But in this case, due to Premier League rules, the club will not be able to appeal the sanction that is given to them.
