Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen stated that he made the player feel at home and that motivated them.

Eguavoen was on the touchline in their first game and victory against Egypt in the African Nations Cup.

The Super Eagles team put in an incredible display against the seven-time African champions who were with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Speaking with the media on what motivated the team’s performance in a short while after the dismissal of former coach Gernot Rohr Eguaveon said: “I just made them feel at home. I told them to see me as their father, their brother and their friend.

“And even the backroom staff I don’t see them as assistant coaches, I see them as colleagues. So I told everybody feel very free but don’t overstep your bounds, we respect one another.

“So that atmosphere, that oneness, that love and confidence among ourselves is really helping matters.”

On the new formation the team plays now:”Still the same personels but I think what we did was we brought the boys together and ask them the formation they are comfortable with because we wanted to be flexible and they let me know the formation they’ve been using for the past few years so I took it and went to work on it and improve them on that formation.”

And on how far the Eagles can go at the ongoing AFCON, Eguavoen said:”That’s a difficult question to answer like I said we want to take every game like a Cup final so we will see where we end.”
