Manchester United’s  4-3 victory against Wolves left fans bewildered as the team showcased moments of brilliance, defensive lapses, and a late-game heroics from 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo.

Manchester United secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolves in a roller-coaster encounter at Molineux. The match encapsulated the unpredictable nature of United’s season, with moments of brilliance and defensive lapses.

Despite dominating the first half and leading 2-0 at halftime, United’s vulnerability was exposed as they allowed Wolves to claw back into the game. A 3-1 lead with 15 minutes remaining turned into a nail-biting finale as Wolves scored twice, leveling the score at 3-3 deep into stoppage time.

Manager Erik ten Hag, under scrutiny for squad discipline and job security, acknowledged the need for better game management. Questions arose about United’s ability to control the game despite extended spells of dominance.

Kobbie Mainoo, an 18-year-old midfielder, emerged as the hero, scoring a stunning solo goal in the 97th minute. Ten Hag praised Mainoo’s resilience and determination, emphasizing the significance of the young player’s contribution.

Despite the thrilling win, Ten Hag expressed “mixed feelings” as defensive vulnerabilities persisted. The manager highlighted the team’s character to secure a late victory but acknowledged the long road ahead in addressing defensive lapses and missed opportunities.

Marcus Rashford’s goal and Rasmus Hojlund’s consistent scoring form provided positives, but the overall performance indicated that United’s struggles persist. Ten Hag now faces the task of dissecting the game against Wolves to build on the positives and address lingering issues before the upcoming clash against West Ham.

In the midst of chaos, Mainoo’s composure and match-winning goal offered a glimmer of hope for United’s future. Ten Hag acknowledged the youngster’s progress and determination, hoping for continued development.

While the victory brought relief, it did not mark a definitive turning point for Manchester United. The focus remains on Ten Hag’s ability to instill defensive stability and capitalize on positive aspects as the team navigates a challenging season.
