Newcastle eye Lyon Striker Moussa Dembele as they seek to stregthen their team.
Newcastle United are weighing up a January move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele as new manager seek to strengthen his team.
The 25-year-old was on loan at Atletico Madrid last season after they agreed a £1.2million loan fee with option for a £30m transfer.
Atletico option to sign the French man was unsuccessful as Dembele’s season had been disrupted by Covid and injuries.
The Spanish side tried to take Dembele on a second loan only for Lyon to block the move.
He started the French season well with four goals in five games suffered a thigh injury then a fractured right fibula. He has returned to Lyon’s side recently but the French club are open to selling if they receive a suitable offer.
Newcastle have been drawing up a list of young strikers but former Celtic and Fulham forward Dembele has plenty of top level experience also.
The magpies are facing relegation threat and it’s a barrier for some of Newcastle’s targets and they may try to strike another loan with view to permanent move.
They are pursuing deals for Atletico’s Kieran Trippier and centre back Sven Botman of Lille though may have to switch sights to more achievable options for January.
Everton’s Lucas Digne is another who has been discussed but the Frenchman is holding out for other clubs showing interest.
Dan Ashworth is expected to join Newcastle as technical director from Brighton in the coming weeks after being given permission to hold talks.
As a result, Brighton have persuaded loans manager David Weir to stay as part of their restructure after he came close to joining Everton at the weekend.
