Ten Hag explain Eriksen’s introduction
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag explained why he introduced midfielder Christian Eriksen in the Carabao cup game against Aston Villa.
Christian Eriksen started the game against Aston Villa from the bench with Ten Hag utilizing Fred in the position while Van De Beek played as an attacking midfielder.
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag brought in the former Inter Milan player because of misplaced and late passes from his midfielders in the game.
Speaking after the Carabao Cup victory Ten Hag explained: “We give away the ball and that was the problem in the first half.
“I said at half-time, the problem in the first half was we had too many touches and we missed the moment to pass the ball behind. That soon helped with [Christian] Eriksen on the pitch.”
Jadon Sancho and Antony didn’t feature in the game due to illness and injury and the Dutchman insists they need more players available for rotation.
“We have some offensive problems with availability and we need more players available so we can rotate and not always play the same players”, Ten Hag said.
“We have to freshen now and again. You see tonight when we bring Garnacho on, we can bring Anthony Elanga in, with new energies coming up. We need that if we want to be successful, especially in the front line, we need rotation.”
The Reds will play against Fulham in the Premier League before embarking on the World Cup break and the former Ajax manager has revealed plans for the break.
”I think that is what we continue to do. Analyse, reflect on our performance, but, of course, we have a little bit more time, which allows us to get a little bit deeper into stuff. That is what we will do and we will look at where we can improve.
“We will have a good reflection on where we can improve [But, first, Fulham] and every game is to win is really important but it’s clear, yeah. Part one [tonight] was revenge for Sunday but part two has to come.”
