Derby County boss Wayne Rooney turns down Everton’s job

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has turned down Everton job asthe Merseyside club hold talks with Lampard, Periera and Fergunson.

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney confirms that he has turned down the chance to manage Everton.

The Merseyside club are in search of manager after they dismissed Rafael Benitez has the club’s head coach.

According to reports, its was stated that Everton have short listed former Porto manager Vitor Pereira, Derby County manager Wayne Rooney, former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard and caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson.

Speaking at the press conference Wayne Rooney said: “Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the vacant job, which I turned down.

“I believe that I will be a Premier League manager and I believe I’m ready for that 100 per cent, and if that is with Everton one day in the future that’d be absolutely great. But I’ve got a job here to do at Derby County which is an important job to me.”

When asked if the decision was a tough one to make the former Manchester United captain said: “Yes, of course I did [think hard about it]. They got in touch with my agent and my agent let the administrators know as well. Of course it was a very difficult decision for me.”

The club’s owner Farhad Moshiri flew to London to hold talks with Pereira, Lampard and Ferguson on Friday morning. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale and finance director Grant Ingles were also seen outside Kenwright’s central London office.

Everton are expected to hold a board meeting on Friday, and it is thought a decision could be made on Friday evening.
