Klopp: we must not dwell on what we now lose
Jurgen Klopp has paid emotional farewell to Sadio Mane following the Senegalese move to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has paid an emotional farewell to Sadio Mane following his move to German side Bayern Munich.
The Senegalese made a move from the Reds to join German Bundesliga champion in a £35million deal.
Speaking to the media after the departure of Sadio Mane Klopp has now stated that they have need to appreciate what the AFCON winner has achieved with them rather than dwell on their loss.
“One of Liverpool’s greatest ever players is leaving and we must acknowledge how significant this is,” Klopp said.
“He leaves with our gratitude and our love. He leaves with his status among the greats guaranteed. And, yes, he leaves in a moment where he is one of the best players in world football.
“But we must not dwell on what we now lose, instead celebrate what we were privileged to have. The goals he scored, the trophies he won; a legend, for sure, but also a modern-day Liverpool icon.
“I respect completely his decision and I’m sure our supporters do also. If you love LFC, you have to love Sadio – non-negotiable. It is possible to do this while accepting our loss is Bayern’s gain.
“We wish him nothing but success in every match he plays in unless, of course, it’s against us. His star will continue to rise, I have no doubts.”
Following his move to Bundesliga Mane claim he will always have the Reds in their heart and further stated that he will be their number fan.
He told the club’s website: “After every one of my games in Munich I will come to the dressing room and I will watch Liverpool, for sure, because I am going to be Liverpool’s No 1 fan forever.”
Mane added: “I think whoever is leaving Liverpool, with those supporters you will always miss them because so far [they are] the best in the world.
“Playing at Anfield I think always gives you so much power because of the fans. So, for sure I am going to miss you guys but anyway, I love you guys.
“I still have my house in Liverpool and everything so for sure I will come back, of course, and I would love one day to come back to Anfield to say hi to them and of course to watch Liverpool playing because for me, I am going to be Liverpool’s No.1 fan.”
