The NBA is set to usher in a new era of court innovation during the upcoming All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, as select events, including the skills competition and dunk contest, will unfold on a state-of-the-art LED glass court.

In a groundbreaking move, the NBA is set to debut a state-of-the-art, full video LED court during the All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. A significant portion of the festivities, including the All-Star Saturday Night lineup featuring the skills competition, 3-point contest, slam dunk competition, and the matchup between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu, will unfold on this innovative glass floor on February 17. Even the celebrity game on February 16 will showcase this cutting-edge technology.

Developed by the German company ASB GlassFloor and previously endorsed by FIBA, the court consists of two layers of laminated safety glass, each 5 millimeters thick.

Despite its transparent appearance, the surface is opaque, with LED panels providing dynamic floor designs. NBA Senior Vice President Carlton Myers highlighted the court’s capabilities, enabling interactive graphics, real-time game stats, replays, video content, and player tracking animations.

With Andre Iguodala and Joe Dumars experimenting on the court last week to ensure safety and performance, the NBA aims to elevate the fan experience both in the arena and on television. The LED glass floor is pricier than traditional wood surfaces but promises similar playability, answering questions about traction and feel.

This move follows the NBA’s recent court design experimentation during the in-season tournament. The league anticipates a visually stunning and impactful All-Star Weekend, pushing the boundaries of sports presentation and technology integration.

The All-Star Game itself on February 18 will remain on a traditional wooden court, preserving a balance between tradition and innovation in the basketball world.
