Is hockey hard to get into?

If you’re in the badminton subreddit you probably saw a similar post, long story short I’m off to university soon and the partying all the time lifestyle isn’t really for me. Since I’m going to be at university for a good few years I need something to do. I was looking at the sports teams and saw they had a hockey team and it seems really fun to play. How hard would it be to learn the fundamentals of hockey and actually be able to play at a decent level?
