AFCON: Matches to be played with 60-80% spectator

The African football federation  stated on Tuesday that AFCON matches will be played with 60-80% spectator due to coronavirus.

According to reports the host match will be played in front of 80% of crowd while other fixtures will be played with 60% crowd.

Sunday’s opening match between Cameroon and Burkina Faso will be played at the 60 000-seater Olembe stadium in Yaounde.

Consultation was made with the Cameroonian government and things have been put in place to combat the deadly virus.

“After many consultations with the Cameroonian government, in light of the evolution of the health crisis and the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Afcon and the local organising committee have agreed an upper limit of between 60 per cent-80 per cent for the capacity of stadiums in the Africa Cup of Nations,” CAF (African Football Federation) said.

Stern coronavirus regulations have already been put in place for the competition which was suppose to take place last year but was postponed due to COVID19.

It is also important that spectators must be vaccinated and present a negative test before being granted entry into the stadium for the games.

Most teams have been affected by the virus; the Super Eagles will be without Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for the AFCON.

While Gambia who have had to pull out of two pre-Afcon (African Cup of Nations) friendlies.
