Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1 and reigning Wimbledon champion, briefly halted his US Open training after twisting his right ankle, but he remains confident it won’t affect his participation in the tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1 and reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion, faced a minor setback during a US Open training session on Saturday after twisting his right ankle.

Although the injury prompted him to cut short his practice as a precautionary measure, the 21-year-old Spanish tennis star remains confident it won’t impede his participation in the upcoming Grand Slam event.

Alcaraz, who won his first US Open title in 2022, has had an exceptional season, capturing his fourth major title at Wimbledon and securing the French Open crown.

However, his preparation for this year’s US Open has been less than ideal, with limited match practice on hard courts. His only hard-court appearance before the US Open ended in a surprising defeat to Gael Monfils at the Cincinnati Open, where he also displayed frustration by smashing his racket.

Despite these challenges, Alcaraz is optimistic about his chances at Flushing Meadows. Reflecting on his past successes, where limited preparation didn’t hinder his victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, he is hopeful that the US Open will follow a similar trajectory.

His confidence remains intact as he prepares to face Australia’s Li Tu, ranked 188th, in the first round on Tuesday night.

Alcaraz’s recent runner-up finish at the Paris Olympics, where he lost a tense final to Novak Djokovic, has also fueled his determination.

The  emotional toll of that loss has only strengthened his resolve to learn and improve in future high-stakes matches. As he gears up for his US Open campaign, Alcaraz is focused on returning to full fitness and defending his title on the grand stage of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
