Ansu Fati insists he is not pressurized with the No. 10 jersey givien to him as he is focused on helping the team.
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati stated that he has no pressure putting on the iconic No. 10 jersey after club legend Lionel Messi.
Ansu Fati insists that jersey number have been worn by legends in the club including Messi but claims he is calm.
He further stated that he won’t try to be like other legends but all he has to do is to follow is own journey.
“It’s true that the No. 10 jersey has been worn by Leo [Messi] and many players but I’m calm,” Fati, 18, said in Thursday’s news conference. “I know what I can bring to this team.
“For me it’s not a pressure. No one is going to be like Leo, no one is going to be like [former captains Carles] Puyol or Xavi [Hernandez]. No one is going to equal what Leo has done. I’m going to follow my own journey. I still haven’t done anything. I hope I can have a career like they have had.
He added that anyone could have gotten the No. 10 jersey but hails the team captains for offering him the number.
He said it serves as an extra motivation for him as he will focus on the pitch and help the team like always.
“Any player could have worn the No. 10. I’m grateful that the captains offered me the number and luckily, I got it. It’s an extra motivation for me. I don’t look at the number but focus on what I can do on the pitch to help the team,” he added.
Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain this summer after Barca were unable to register his contract due to financial restraints.
