The Dallas Mavericks will be without their newly acquired superstar, Anthony Davis, for Monday’s home game against the Sacramento Kings due to a left adductor strain. The injury prematurely ended Davis’ impressive debut with the franchise on Saturday night against the Houston Rockets.

Davis, who headlined the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, had been enjoying a stellar first outing with Dallas before exiting late in the third quarter. In just 31 minutes, he posted 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks, helping the Mavericks secure a victory.

Despite missing the final stretch of the game, the 31-year-old big man reassured fans and the team that the issue was not serious.

“Just the leg got tight, like a little spasm,” Davis said after the game. “Just came back and tried to get it loose and everything. Obviously, dealing with the ab strain still, so just tried to get it loose. It wouldn’t really loosen up and let go, but it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”

Davis had already been sidelined for five consecutive games – missing his final three contests with the Lakers and his first two with the Mavericks – due to an abdominal strain. While he had made a strong first impression with Dallas, the team is taking a cautious approach to ensure his long-term health.

The Mavericks could be further shorthanded against the Kings, as starting forward P.J. Washington is questionable with a sprained right ankle. Washington was forced to sit out the second half of Saturday’s win over Houston.

Additionally, key reserves Max Christie (right shoulder strain) and Dante Exum (left Achilles tightness) are also listed as questionable for Monday’s matchup.

With Davis sidelined and Dončić now in Los Angeles, the Mavericks are navigating a major transition as they reshape their roster. Davis’ presence in the lineup was immediately felt, offering elite two-way play and interior dominance. However, injuries have often plagued his career, and Dallas will hope his latest setback does not develop into a long-term issue.

The Mavericks (currently in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race) will look to build momentum without Davis as they face a tough challenge in the Kings. His status will be closely monitored in the coming days as Dallas aims to keep their new star healthy for the stretch run.
