Sportscliffs: Champions League winners as player and manager

Winning the Champions League is not for every player and there are some that have won it has a player and has a manager, Sportscliffs have come up with the European cup winner as a player and manager.

The UEFA Champions League is a prestigious league that is played by teams in Europe and hosted by the European football body ‘UEFA’.

The League is one of the best competitions in the history of football which players and team all of Europe always fight to compete in it.

There are players that have the highest number of Champions League in the history of the competition and some have won the prestigious Ballon d’ Or award through it.

Meanwhile, there are ex-players that have turned football managers now that have won the Champions League as a player and as a manager.

Miguel Munoz: The former Real Madrid captain and manager won the European League in the 1956 and 1957 as a player.

Munoz was Real Madrid’s manager when the Spanish giant won 5th and 6th Champions League trophy.

Giovanni Trapattoni: The Italian played ad midfielder during his playing days and won the European cup with AC Milan in 1963 and 1969.

He lifted the Champions League trophy as manager once when he let the Juventus team to glory in 1985.

Johan Cruyff: Cruyff who is known for his football knowledge help the Ajax side win the European cup three times as player in 1971,1972 and 1973.

He then became Barcelona manager and led them to the Champions League glory in1992.

Carlo Ancelotti: Ancelotti was a player in Milan when the team clinched a back to back titles in 1989 and 1990.

He has won the Champions League 4 times, he won it twice with Italian side AC Milan in 2003 and 2007, the he later won it with Real Madrid in 2014 and 2022.

Frank Rijkaard: Rijkaard was one of the players to win the Champions League with AC Milan in 1989 and 1990 before winning it at Ajax also in 1995.

He the led Barcelona to the European glory in 2006 beating Premier League side Arsenal in the final.

Zinedine Zidane: The French ex-player was a runner up twice when he was a player in Juventus in 1997 and 1998 before he clinched his only Champions League as player with Real Madrid in 2002.

Zidane later led the Real Madrid side to three consecutive Champions League victory as a manager in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Josep Guardiola: The current Manchester City manager is one of the ex-players that have won the Champions League as a player and as a manager.

As a player Pep Guardiola was part of Johan Cruyff’s Barcelona side that won the Champions League in 1992.

He later became Barcelona first team manager and won the Champions League twice for the Catalan club as a manager.

The Spaniard missed out on the third one as a manager when he lost the Champions League final in to Chelsea.
