Tottenham manager Antonio Conte fumes at the decision of the UEFA after game against Rennes was forfeited.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says he is disappointed with the decision of the UEFA and called it unfair.

Spurs game in the Europa conference league against Rennes was called off due to covid outbreak in the team.

It was reported by sportscliffs.com that UEFA stated that the game could not be rescheduled and referred the matter to its disciplinary body, with the outcome that Spurs forfeited the match and therefore elimination from the third-tier European competition.

Conte called the decision “incredible” and says the club could take the matter to the Court for Arbitration of Sport.

“It is not definitive, but there is another step to confirm or not this incredible decision,” he said.

“We are very, very confident for the next step and I repeat we deserve to play the qualification on the pitch, not in the court. I can’t accept this. We are very, very disappointed with UEFA for this decision.

“It’s unfair for sure. We deserve to play for qualification on the pitch, not in this way. I’m very disappointed for UEFA’s decision.

“I don’t want to understand but I hope in the future, in the next step, something can change because we deserve to play for qualification on the pitch, not in this way. It’s not our fault.”

On the eve of the Rennes game earlier this month, Conte revealed eight players of Tottenham’s first-team squad and five staff members had tested positive for Covid-19 which led to the first-team training centre being shut.

Meanwhile, Tottenham forward Harry Kane said they have used postponed games as an advantage to take a rest.

“We’ve been itching to play, preparing for each game and for them to be postponed is never easy,” Kane told club media. “We’ve been raring to go but we’ve used the time to get a bit of rest in a busy period – Christmas is always hectic for us.

“The most important thing is that we’re creating chances and we can take that forward into the Carabao Cup in midweek (against West Ham) and Palace next weekend.

“We’ve just got to be ready for what’s to come. We’re preparing well on the training pitch and performances like (the one against Liverpool) will give us confidence going forward.

“All the hard work on the training pitch – tactically, physically – is paying off. The boss has only been here for six weeks or so, but we’re definitely seeing changes in the team and the way we work, the way we work without the ball.

“There were a couple of players starting against Liverpool who haven’t started a game for a while and it was great to see them put in the performances they did. We’ll need the whole squad if we’re going to push forward in this period.”

Speaking on the game against Liverpool Kane stated that he is pleased with their performance against the Reds but disappointed with the result.

“There was definitely some disappointment in the dressing room after that,” he added.

“I thought it was a really good performance from the start, getting the early goal and then we had some clear-cut opportunities after that to go two, three up and then it would have been a really difficult game for Liverpool.

“We let them back into the game, they went 2-1 up but we showed great character to then get back into the game ourselves. For sure, we had the chances out there and, on another night, we would have put them away and won the game. It shows we’re moving in the right direction though and hopefully we can build on that in the games ahead.”
