Fletcher Uncertain of Future at Manchester United

Manchester United interim coach Darren Fletcher stated that he is not sure on the clubs plan for him as he prepare to lead the team to FA cup clash with Brighton at Old Trafford.

Darren Fletcher has said he’s in the dark over Manchester United’s plans for his future as he prepares to lead the team at Old Trafford this Sunday. Following the “2-2 draw with Burnley” in midweek, the 41-year-old remains in the dugout on a temporary basis following “Ruben Amorim’s sacking.”

Despite the high-stakes fixture against Brighton, the interim boss revealed there have been “no conversations” regarding his role beyond this weekend. While United officials are reportedly meeting with candidates like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Fletcher remains focused solely on his current mandate. “For me, I’ve been focusing on the job at hand, preparing the team for these two games. There’s been no thoughts or conversations about my future,” he explained.

Fletcher confirmed that while he reports to the club’s hierarchy, he has been given the autonomy to lead. “Honestly, the people in Jason and Omar have given me full responsibility to take control of these two games, make my own decisions, lead the team, guide the team, prepare the team, and that’s what I’ve been doing,” he stated.

United’s squad depth remains a challenge, as the club waits for players to return from the Africa Cup of Nations. Although Cameroon’s exit means Bryan Mbeumo is heading back to Manchester, Fletcher confirmed the Brighton game is “too soon” for him or Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui. Reflecting on the Burnley draw, Fletcher expressed frustration over a missed VAR call involving a tackle by Kyle Walker.

“It didn’t look great from Walker’s point of view, but I like Kyle and I know him as a person, so I hope the intent was to get the ball,” Fletcher added, noting that such moments were “massive influences on the game.”
