Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti insists his side needs to deal with the defeat against Getafe away from home without over reacting.
Real Madrid lost their first game of the new year in La Liga to Getafe after giving an early goal in the match.
Speaking to the media after the game yesterday Ancelotti claims that they showed their best ten minute after the goal but went back to been nervous.
“We have to deal with this defeat without overreacting. We’re still top of the league and we’re looking to the future with real motivation. We reacted well in the ten minutes following the goal. Then we got a bit nervous, lost the ball too often and were second best in our individual battles.
“We gifted them the first goal, through a player who is usually outstanding defensively. There’s not a whole lot to say about the game, other than we seemed to take an extra day’s holiday”.
Ancelotti further stated that they didn’t perform like the same thing last year before the Christmas as he believes their holiday were not over.
He added that they lost concentration in the game but also insisted that they didn’t deserve to lose the game.
“It didn’t look like the same team that finished the year before Christmas. We lacked concentration. We didn’t deserve to lose the game, a draw would have been fair but we gifted them a goal and ended up losing it. The team were still on holiday today.
“It’s not easy to play again after time off, but that’s just making excuses. We didn’t play well and as I said, we didn’t deserve to win it, but I don’t think we should have lost either. We dropped a point and now we have to look forward”.
Ancelotti was shown a yellow card in the first half of the game but the Madrid boss insisted if they played well, it wouldn’t have come down to the referee.
“It didn’t come down to the referee. If we’d played well then it might have done, but that wasn’t the case. We finished the first half with two yellow cards. One for me, which I thought was unnecessary, and one for Rodrygo. He could’ve shown more yellow cards, especially in the first half”.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro stated that they fought hard in the game but their effort was not enough to get at least a point.
“It was a tough, complicated game. When we slip up, we do so as a team but we have to be fair, today it came down to an individual mistake by a guy who has been one of our best players recently. That’s the way football goes and we have to be focused. We worked and fought hard but it’s over now and we have to look ahead to the Copa match”.
“This jersey demands that we never lose but we had chances and if we do fall short, it should be just like we showed, fighting to the end. Everyone is committed, we have a great squad. We must always try to take three points but we have to move forward now”.
Real Madrid shot stopper Courtois also expressed his disappointment in the game as he hopes is side will bounce back from the defeat.
“It’s always difficult playing here against this side. They’ve not conceded many goals lately, we knew we had to be patient. It’s a shame we went behind so early in the game, that dictates how they play and gives them some breathing space. We created chances, but it wasn’t enough”.
“We’ve lost, but we have to keep moving forward. Hopefully we can go on now and pick up two wins, on Wednesday and then against Valencia at home. The games in which we’ve dropped points have been against teams that defended very deep, except for Espanyol, who beat us well. We have to look back on the game together and move forward”.
