Manchester United needs squad overhaul

It is believed that some current Manchester United players lack aggressive DNA and it has been suggested the club needs a squad overhaul in order to compete with top teams.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick insists that the team needs a drastic overhaul of squad if they want to be top in the Premier League again.

The German took charge of the team following the dismissal of former manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer and since then have been in a top four fight with Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham.

Rangnick will leave the position of being a manager to an advance role at the club and has insisted he already notify the board on players that can improve the team.

The 63-years-old has warned that United will need couple of transfer windows in order to be at the top position.

“There might be a couple of players – and I have already named those players to the board – that independent from formation, from style of football, and independent from a new manager, that could be of interest for a club like United,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports.

“But in general, if you look at the size of the way the team needs to be rebuilt, I mean, it’s not enough to bring in three or four new players.

“It will be more, bearing in mind how many players will no longer be here with the contracts running out.”

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is one the players whose contract will expire in this current campaign.

Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata’s contract will also expire this summer and look set to leave the Red Devils.

Nemanja Matic announced last week that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season aswell.

Sportscliffs also understands that there is uncertainty over the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, along with a host of other fringe players.

Rangnick also appeared to suggest his current crop of United stars are too soft, pointing to a lack of ‘aggressive’ traits in the DNA of his players, something he believes is costing them in their pursuit of a Champions League place.

“It’s important that you have players who have that in their DNA, who are in a way naturally born aggressive and this is something that is difficult to change,’ he added. ‘But as I said, this is something for the future.”
