Emma Raducanu withdraws from Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

British Tennis player Emma Raducanu has pulled out of next week’s Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

This decision came after her second-round loss in the Indian Wells tournament Aliaksandra Sasnovich last week.

The tournament will start on Monday 18 October and finishes on Sunday 24th October.

She hasn’t given an immediate reason for her withdrawal but insists she’s looking to compete in the tournament next year.

“Unfortunately, I’ve had to make a tournament schedule change and won’t be able to play Moscow this year but I hope to compete there and in front of the Russian fans next year,” Raducanu said.

“I look forward to returning to the tour in the next couple of weeks.”

The 18-year-old lost to Sasnovich in straight sets at Indian Wells in her first match since winning the US Open title at Flushing Meadows in September.

Despite the defeat, Raducanu acknowledges the result should stand her in good stead going forward.

After the match, she said: “I think Aliaksandra played a great match. She was better than me today so she deserves to win.

“I’m kind of glad that what happened today happened so I can learn and take it as a lesson.

That is a tournament she will be keen to feature in, with her father, Ian, hailing from Romania.

She revealed that she still often visits the country to see her Grandma.

“My grandma, Mamiya, still lives in central Bucharest. I go back a couple of times a year, stay with her, see her,” she said.
