Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney believes Mauricio Pochettino will do a better job at Manchester United than Erik Ten Hag.
Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has chosen former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino over Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag to take over the job at Manchester United.
Manchester United have struggled so far this season as they replaced former manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer with German manager Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis.
The Manchester club have been in search of a new manager that will take charge of the team as from next season and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag are on the list.
Rooney while choosing his preferred candidate for the job he didn’t hesitate in picking former Tottenham boss Pochettino for the job.
He stated that he has done an incredible job in the Premier League with former side Southampton and also Tottenham.
He stated that he knows the Premier League more than the Dutch man Erik Ten Hag and believes he will do a wonderful job at Manchester United.
“I think Pochettino has done it in the Premier League,” Rooney said. “He knows the Premier League and at Tottenham he brought a lot of players through. He did it at Southampton as well.
“If I’m choosing from one of the two, that’s who I’d choose. He would need to be given time to place his blueprint on the club and on the team. If you give him time, I think he’d do well.”
Speaking further about the team Rooney said he has been to the ground to watch United’s game and admits they are team that believes in individual ability which makes it had for them to recover when mistake is made.
“It’s been a strange season,” Rooney told Sky Sports. “I’ve been to the ground to watch them live a few times and they look like a team of individuals. When they make a mistake it always looks very difficult for them to recover as a team.”
He added that with the players Manchester United have at hand they need to be doing better but insists it has been a tough season for them.
“I can look at it and say it hasn’t been good enough as we have that group of players they need to be doing better. They’re going through a tough time as a club, and I think what everyone wants is for them to get the manager situation sorted as soon as possible, and they have to rebuild for the next two or three years to make sure they’re challenging again.”
