Salah Exits AFCON, Chooses Liverpool for Injury Rehab
Mohamed Salah is set to leave the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to undergo rehabilitation for a hamstring injury with his club, Liverpool. The decision follows Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s earlier indication, and despite Egypt’s hope for Salah’s return in the later stages of AFCON, the star forward will prioritize recovery with his club.
Liverpool’s star forward, Mohamed Salah, is set to return to the club for treatment on a hamstring injury after witnessing Egypt’s group fixtures at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egypt Football Association (EFA) confirmed this decision, aligning with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s earlier suggestion following their Premier League triumph over Bournemouth.
Despite Salah’s setback, Egypt remains optimistic about his potential participation in the tournament, expressing hope to have him back for the semifinals, should they qualify.
The nature and timeline of Salah’s recovery remain uncertain after sustaining the injury against Ghana.
Klopp, outlining the plan for Salah’s rehabilitation, stated the intention for the player to either undergo treatment with Liverpool’s medical staff or in collaboration with the club.
The Liverpool manager revealed his communication with Salah on the night of the injury and emphasized the possibility of Salah rejoining the Africa Cup of Nations if he makes a swift recovery.
Salah, addressing the injury, focused on the team’s efforts, stating, “We have great players, a great team, and we just need to fight and see what is going to happen.”
In Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, other players stepped up in Salah’s absence. Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota each scored twice in the second half, securing Liverpool’s lead in the Premier League by five points.
Klopp praised their performances, highlighting the team’s strength when finding rhythm during the game.
The Liverpool manager also commended Alexis Mac Allister’s controlled midfield display and Conor Bradley’s impressive Premier League debut at right-back.
Klopp expressed satisfaction with Bradley’s performance, labeling him as a “wonderful kid” and praising his work ethic and footballing abilities.
As Salah heads back to Liverpool for rehabilitation, the club aims to maintain its momentum in the Premier League, while Egypt remains hopeful for their star player’s return in the later stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.
