Ten Hag defends David De Gea after error
Erik Ten Hag has risen to the defense of goalkeeper David De Gea after his error cost United against West Ham.
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag insists the team would not have been in the position of fighting for Champions League qualification with out De Gea.
The Spaniard made a costly mistake which gave the lead to the Hammers during United’s Premier League visits.
“I think we all know, David knows also, it’s a mistake, but he’s a brilliant goalkeeper,” Ten Hag said of the shot stopper.
“We may not be in this position when he didn’t show this shape over the course of the season. Mistakes are part of football and we have to live with it and we have to bounce back as a team.”
Christian Eriksen also defended his fellow teammate after the defeat as he insists anyone can have a bad game.
“He [De Gea] is one of the reasons why we are where we are,” Eriksen said, in defence of his team-mate.
“He has proven that again and again. Anyone can have a bad game or a little mistake.
“We had the team and we had the qualities. We should have bounced back and we will.”
Manchester United now have to focus to keep their Champions League qualification alive as they are one point behind Liverpool on the League table.
