Tuchel reveals the advantage Real Madrid have above them
Thomas Tuchel is on verge to overturn a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League as he reveals the advantage the Spanish side have over them.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says Spanish side Real Madrid have an advantage over them in the return leg of the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabue.
Chelsea will travel to Spain capital for the return leg of the competition after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel insists he want his team to be more physical in the lost against Real Madrid which saw French forward score 3 goals in the game to give his side an advantage.
The German believes that the decision to make 3 substitutions in the Premier League as opposed in the La Liga 5 substitutions this season has an effect on his team.
“First of all, we wanted it more physical but we did not work hard or intense enough in the first match,” he said.
“Second of all, we face a huge disadvantage in terms of physicality because Real Madrid has a whole year with five changes and we play the most demanding league, we play the most matches throughout the season and throughout 2022 so it is not always easy to play a physical game.
“We are a team that needs the physicality, the sharpness, the commitment and the investment to be a special team. We could not implement that enough in the last match.
“This was also due to their quality, their capacity to slow the game down, to control the match by ball possession.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea have a tough task of overhauling a 3-1 deficit when they travel to the Bernabeu on Tuesday.
Tuchel said: “Callum Hudson-Odoi is still out, Chilwell is out. Romelu will not travel with us due to the pain in his Achilles.
“Azpi is in the group, he has tested negative several times. Ross Barkley is sick and will not travel, everyone else is in the squad.”
