UEFA seek to move matches away from Europe

UEFA could be planning to move Champions League matches away from Europe within the next few years.

The 2025 final is already set for Munich, but beyond that there have been no deals signed over future locations of the showpiece event.

And president Aleksander Ceferin has hinted a Champions League final, or other top games, held in the United States of America could be on the cards in the future.

“Champions League games being played in USA? It’s possible. We started to discuss about that,” Caferin told

Men in Blazers.

“But one year it was the World Cup, 2024 is Euro, this year the final is in Istanbul, 2024 is London and 2025 is Munich.

“After that, let’s see. It’s possible.”

It was reported last September that talks had taken place over a four-team Super Cup being played as a season-opening event in the US from 2024- potentially featuring the champions of Major League Soccer alongside the winners of UEFA’s three men’s club competitions, the Champions League, Europa League and European Conference League.

Other sports have successfully taken matches into new markets, such as the NFL playing regular-season games in London, while MLB will play the second London Series game this summer at West Ham’s London Stadium.
