Manchester United Urged to ‘Grow Up’ After Dropping Points Against Fulham

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has called for his team to “grow up” after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage extended their winless start to the Premier League season.

Leny Yoro’s deflected header gave United the lead at the 58-minute mark, following a missed first-half penalty by Bruno Fernandes. However, substitute Emile Smith Rowe equalized for Fulham 15 minutes later, leaving United with just one point from their opening two matches, including a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal. Next, they face a challenging Carabao Cup tie away to League Two’s Grimsby Town.

Amorim pinpointed the moment United scored as the turning point, saying, “We forgot about how we play… The moment that changed the game was our goal. We want to win so badly, and that is a good feeling, but we have to enjoy more and push the opponent.”

He criticized the team’s high pressing, which left spaces for Fulham to exploit, adding, “You need to win to relax a little bit, maintaining our mind.” The miss by Fernandes, a key figure, also weighed on the squad, with Amorim noting, “He has so much responsibility… I felt the lack of joy. Now, we have to move forward.”

Despite £200m spent on attackers Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško—none of whom have scored yet—Amorim remains unfazed.

“The feeling is there… We are going to score goals because we are creating so many chances,” he said, defending Šeško’s adjustment to the Premier League’s pace after coming off the bench.

With the team struggling to convert opportunities, Amorim’s focus is on maturity and support for new signings as United aim to turn their season around. Fans will hope this wake-up call sparks a revival.
