Giannis Antetokounmpo not focused on new contract
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has a big contract decision deadline approaching, but he isn’t worried about it.
“Right now, I am not focused on that. I am just trying to focus on myself,” he said, adding that he is leaving those discussions to his agent, Alex Saratsis, and the front office.
Antetokounmpo, 26, has until Dec. 21 to sign a super-max extension with the Bucks, or he can choose to bypass a new deal and keep his 2021 free agency options open.
However, Dec. 21 isn’t a drop dead date when it comes to a new contract for Antetokounmpo, as he can dictate the length of the contract but at less money, notes ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
The Bucks have recently reportedly “gone kind of silent” on whether Antetokounmpo will sign a supermax extension, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.
“During the Jrue Holiday, Bogdan Bogdanovic bonanza, the Bucks were really optimistic,” said Lowe on The Jump. “They were about ready to pop the champagne, they were super excited. They’ve gone kind of silent since then. I don’t really know what that means … I just haven’t been hearing that [that optimism].”
