Nikola Jokic helps his side claim victory over the Phoenix Suns as Denver Nuggets take lead into the semifinals.

Nikola Jokic scored 39 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the hosts Denver Nuggets beat the Phoenix Suns 97-87 on Monday night to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Aaron Gordon added 16 points, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 14 points and made all four of his 3-point attempts for the Nuggets, who held Phoenix to 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Jamal Murray scored 10 points and dished out eight assists.

Devin Booker scored 35 points, Kevin Durant had 24 points and Deandre Ayton added 14 for the Suns.

Trailing 2-0 in their Western Conference semi-final series, the Phoenix Suns now await word on the status of point guard Chris Paul, who left in the third quarter of their 97-87 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday due to left groin tightness.

The 12-time All-Star exited with 4:32 left in the third quarter after tangling with Denver’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope while trying to get rebounding positioning. Paul quickly grabbed at his groin area when he came down.
