Leny Yoro Vows Manchester United Will Seek ‘Revenge’ After Dismal Season

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has declared the team is out for “revenge” following their worst top-flight season in over 50 years, finishing 15th in the Premier League—their lowest standing since relegation to the second division in 1974.

As the squad returned to Manchester on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, after a promising pre-season tour of America, Yoro emphasized a renewed determination ahead of the new campaign.

United, under manager Rúben Amorim, secured two wins and a draw against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton during the tour, boosting morale.

With the Premier League season kicking off against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17, Yoro insisted, “This season will be different for us. It will be like a revenge from last season. We need to do better.”

The 19-year-old, who has battled injuries since joining from Lille last summer, added, “When you play for Manchester United, you need to have the mindset of being the best version of yourself… We understand this.”

The club’s £130m investment in strikers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer heightens expectations for a strong start. Despite Amorim’s challenging debut season, marked by a Europa League final loss and a poor league finish, Yoro remains optimistic.

“We are a big club… There are a lot of people that want us to fail… But we don’t care about what they say outside,” he said, urging the team to focus on fans and block out media criticism.

Amorim faces pressure to deliver, with critics watching closely. Yoro’s resolve, echoed by recent pre-season performances, signals a squad ready to turn the page on last year’s disappointment.
