Manchester United charged by FA following reaction against Fulham

Manchester United have been hit with FA charges after players surrounded the referee towards the end of their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham.

Manchester United defeated Fulham 3-1 to book their place in the last-four, but the game descended into chaos in the second-half as Fulham manager Marco Silva and Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian were all sent off.

Willian’s handball denied Jadon Sancho an equaliser after Mitrovic scored to give Fulham the lead.

A group of Man United players surrounded referee Chris Kavanagh to remonstrate after he appeared to miss it. After their protests, the ref went to the pitchside monitor, issued United a penalty kick and Willian a straight red card.

Silva was also sent to the stands for his reaction, while Mitrovic was sent off for shoving the match official.

Fulham had already been charged for their offenses, with United’s charge emerging today as their protests towards the referee were deemed too strong.

“Manchester United FC has been charged after its players surrounded a match official during the 71st minute of the FA Cup tie against Fulham FC on Sunday 19 March,” an FA statement read.

“It is alleged that Manchester United FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or do not behave in a way which is improper.

“Manchester United FC has until March 27 to respond.”
