Mikel Obi Expresses Desire to Work with Super Eagles as a Mediator, Recognizes Drogba as Greatest African Player

Former Nigerian international footballer, Mikel Obi, has expressed his keen interest in contributing to the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, in a non-managerial role.

In an exclusive interview with CNN Sports, Mikel disclosed his desire to work towards resolving issues within the team’s structure and management.

“I would love to get involved with the Super Eagles, but not as a manager; I don’t want to get sacked; I don’t think I can handle that very well,” Mikel expressed, emphasizing his reluctance to take on a managerial position.

Instead, he aspires to act as a mediator between the players and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), aiming to address and rectify systemic issues for the team’s success.

Acknowledging the talents of numerous African football legends, Mikel highlighted the greatness of players like George Weah, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure, Jay Jay Okocha, and Nnwakwo Kanu.

However, he bestowed the title of the greatest African player upon Didier Drogba, noting Drogba’s impact and achievements in the game.

“Success doesn’t happen only on the pitch, but from the top. So for me, that’s where we should start,” Mikel emphasized, emphasizing the significance of addressing administrative aspects for on-field success.

Expressing his willingness to contribute, he revealed his aspirations for future involvement with the Super Eagles, focusing on fostering respect and unity among players and fans.

Mikel Obi’s dedication to improving the team’s structure and his acknowledgment of Drogba’s legacy mark his commitment to elevating African football while awaiting developments in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
