David Moyes insists his sid will take encouragement to France when the play the return leg against Lyon following their 1-1 draw in London.

West Ham manager David Moyes believes his side will take encouragement when they visit the French club in the return leg of their Europa League tie.

West Ham who hosted the Hammers last night played a 1-1 draw despite falling a man down in the game.

Moyes was not pleased with the way his side handled possession in the game but proud of their resilience after Aaron Cresswell saw a red card.

“We’re right in this tie and we’ll go there to try to win the game”, David Moyes said after their 1-1 draw against Lyon. We’ll give ourselves every opportunity and the players have done a great job in the second half to make sure we have a chance.

“We know that we’re still trying to get better, we’re challenging ourselves against a lot of good teams, with different styles. When a couple of years ago we were trying to play football to avoid relegation, to now trying to play football that’s good enough to be around the top of European competition.

“It’s a big change in a short period and we’re still adapting to all those changes.

“I thought technically they were very good – they kept hold of the ball, passed it through midfield and made it difficult for us.

“We will need to reassess a little bit of that, but overall I just didn’t like the way we played with the ball in the first half.

“Second half we didn’t have much of the ball, but if anything we probably made more chances with ten men than we did with eleven in the first half, so that tells you a little bit about how I thought the first half went.”
