Paris Saint Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that the result against Real Madrid was enjoyed for few seconds as they have to think about the second leg.
PSG defeated Real Madrid in the Champions League first leg of the Knock out stage in France.
Kylian Mbappe’s late minute goal was enough to give the French side a perfect 1-0 victory in the game.
Former Barcelona player Lionel Messi would have given PSG the lead but the forward missed a penalty.
Speaking with the club media after the game Pochettino said: “I think it was amazing the performance, I am very pleased for the players. I think we deserved the victory.
“In the last minute, in the last action, it was good. But in that moment you only enjoy it for a few seconds, because in your mind it’s ‘ok in three weeks we have the next game.’”
The former Tottenham manager praise the opponent as he admits Real Madrid are a tough team to play against.
“I think Real Madrid is an amazing team, a very good team and it’s always difficult to play there. But if we show this type of performance and this level I think we have to hope that we can be in the next stage,” Pochettino added.
Winning the game Pochettino believes the result will boost their confidence as they now have another three weeks to prepare for the second leg.
“It’s important for us, for the confidence, and now we have three weeks to prepare the game. I think it’s always better when you get this type of feeling, it’s always easier.
“The fans were fantastic and of course it was amazing support and energy and the players were fantastic. That connection must always be on the pitch, always during 95 minutes because that is really, really powerful.”
PSG left back Nuno Mendes also stated that the victory gave them a great feeling as he claims they gave everything in the 90 minutes of the game.
“It’s a great feeling, it’s a great victory for the whole team and we are very happy for that. Yes, it was a very positive game for us. We managed to take the lead against Madrid in the first leg. We gave everything for 90 minutes, we created a lot of chances and we managed to score a goal and we are very happy for that.
“I felt good on the pitch. I had a lot of desire. I think the team started the game well. And that gave me strength to do well with my teammates and it was important for us that I was in my best shape for this game.
“Yes, we have to stay calm after this great victory, celebrate this victory but in a quiet way. And above all, we have to stay focused on our objectives, which is to win our next league match.”
