Trump Proposes UFC Match at White House to Mark America’s 250th Independence Anniversary
President Donald Trump announced on Thursday his intention to host a UFC match on the White House grounds with up to 25,000 spectators to celebrate 250 years of American independence, culminating on July 4, 2026.
Speaking at the Iowa State Fairgrounds during the launch of a year-long “America 250” celebration, Trump, a known UFC enthusiast and close friend of league president Dana White, said, “We have a lot of land there,” envisioning a “full fight” on the premises.
The proposal includes a major festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and an athletic competition for high school athletes nationwide. Trump highlighted plans for special events at national parks, battlefields, and historic sites, adding, “And I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Trump’s seriousness about the idea, though a spokesperson noted no further details are available beyond the announcement.
Trump’s affinity for UFC has been evident, with recent cageside appearances, including post-2024 reelection and last month’s UFC 316 alongside White.
The plan has sparked varied reactions, with some viewing it as a bold patriotic gesture, while others question its feasibility on White House grounds, a site typically reserved for official duties. No official date or logistical framework has been set, leaving the proposal in early discussion as the 250th anniversary festivities begin.
