Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies suffer heart issues called myocarditis, after testing positive for coronavirus in the beginning of the new year.

German coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that the defender will be out for some weeks due to his heart issues.

“During our follow-up examination that we do with ever player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle,” confirmed Nagelsmann on Friday morning.

“He has stopped training for now, so he won’t be available to us for the next weeks.

“This myocarditis isn’t too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of an inflammation. Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time.”

The Canadian is a key player for former Leipzig manager Nagelsmann’s, missing just two Bundesliga games this season to help them go six points clear at the top of the table.

Davies joined Bayern Munich as a winger in July 2018 after a successful spell at MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps and has since been converted into a left-back.

Many regard him as one of the best full-backs in the modern game, winning three Bundesliga tiles, the Champions League and a host of other trophies in Munich.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand claims 2020 that the left back is the best attacking full back “He’s the best attacking full-back on the planet at the minute.”

Speaking in July 2020, Bayern president Herbert Hainer said: “The development of Alphonso Davies has given me a lot of pleasure.

“He’s been a real hit: he is absolutely top-class on the pitch and with his young, fresh manner, he is well on the way to becoming a popular figure. The boy makes us very happy”

Davies is the second Bayern player in the last 12 months to suffer a heart scare after forward Kingsley Coman underwent heart surgery in September.
