The Eight years Secret That Tore the Giggs Family Apart

In the sight of millions of football fans worldwide, former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs was one of the greatest professional. He was a  quiet, graceful winger who won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, and played at the highest level well until his late 30s.

He was seen as  role model by young athletes everywhere but  behind closed doors, however, Giggs was hiding a secret that would eventually tear up his family.

For  eight solid years, Ryan was having a secret affair with Natasha Giggs—the wife of his younger brother, Rhodri.

The affair started in 2003,  before Natasha and Rhodri were married. Over the next eight years, as Rhodri was building a life with Natasha and starting a family, Ryan was secretly having affair with Natasha.

It was so hard for anyone to suspect anything as everything went normal, from the family sharing Sunday roasts, celebrating Christmas together, and sitting around the same dinner tables. All the while, Ryan was carrying on an affair with his sister-in-law.

In June 2011, the truth finally came out.

Natasha came forward and revealed the entire story to the British tabloids. The details complete with dates, locations, and messages—were splashed across front pages nationwide.

For Rhodri, the news was a devastating blow. Finding out your partner has been unfaithful is painful enough, but discovering that the other man is your own brother—someone you looked up to your entire life—was a unique kind of heartbreak.

The public exposure shattered the Giggs family dynamic forever:

  • Rhodri and Natasha immediately separated and later divorced.

  • Danny Wilson, the father of Ryan and Rhodri, publicly disowned Ryan, stating he was ashamed to call him his son.

  • The brothers completely cut ties and stopped speaking to each other.

On the pitch, Ryan Giggs’ career remained largely untouched. Football fans continued to sing his name at Old Trafford, and he eventually went on to manage the Welsh national team. In the world of sports, trophy counts often overshadow personal failings.

Off the pitch, the damage was permanent. Rhodri later spoke openly in interviews about the difficulty of moving on, admitting that while he eventually found peace with his own life, the bond between the brothers was broken beyond repair.

The story remains one of the most infamous scandals in modern sports history—a stark reminder that while fans may forgive their sporting heroes, blood does not always forgive.
