This is a review of Leeds vs Tottenham game in the premier league, which comprises of what was said before and after the match and what happened after the game.
Leeds United hosted Tottenham Hotspurs in the Premier League on Saturday after they suffered defeat from Manchester United.
The game ended 4-0 in favour of Tottenham leaving Leeds United to another huge defeat in the Premier League.
What was said before the match?
Marcelo Bielsa before the game said that his players have already demonstrated that the have the ability to compete in the Premier League.
He added that that he believed his style can work very well in the Premier League and that he imagined that they have possibility of winning.
“These players, they’ve already demonstrated they have the level to play in the Premier League.
“The style, the model, it has already shown it can work in the Premier League.
“The effort and willingness of the team, it can’t be doubted because they have been the most intense team in their performance in the whole of their two years in the Premier League.
“Of course, every game that we play, I imagine that we have true possibilities of winning”, Bielsa said before the game.
Meanwhile Antonio Conte had lots of drama before the Leeds game following his loss to Burnley in the Premier League.
The Italian stated that he needs to be assessed by the club saying he feels he is not the right person for the job.
The former Inter Milan manager later claim he was emotional and that he will stick with the club.
“For sure when I lose a game I am not the person to go and have a dinner. I think that I am not the right person, when I lose a game my mood is very bad and I prefer to stay alone and live the defeat, to stay alone and metabolise the defeat.
“I need one day to recover at least. This is me. It is me. I don’t like to lose. If you ask me what I hate in life it is to lose games. My mentality is to prepare myself, to prepare the players and to avoid this type of situation.
“I am sorry if I show my disappointment because maybe it would be good to keep this inside and not show my emotion. I am an honest person it is difficult for me to lie or hide the truth and for this reason.” Conte said ahead of the game.
What was said after the game?
Marcelo Bielsa felt bad after the game and stated that they would have reduced the score.
He added that despite playing a defensive style they still conceded 4 goals in the game.
“What’s concrete is that in the two ways we faced the game, with a more conservative profile in the first half, and with a more daring profile in the second, neither of the two ways gave a result.
“Obviously it’s not just this game, but a succession of results. Against these type of results there is no way of not feeling badly.
“The amount of goals conceded, of course it has a decisive influence on the results we obtain.
“Today, when we played with seven players with a more defensive profile, a back four and three midfielders with a more defensive profile, we did not defend better”, Bielsa said after the game.
On the other hand, Conte claims his system is now working for Tottenham in the Premier League.
“For the first time I have seen my mark about this system, to create with the wing-back and the other wing back to score. This is a mark of my system, my formation.
“This is the first time. It means the work is starting to work.
“It was a good performance for us in a very difficult stadium against a strong team that is very difficult to play against”, Conte said after the match.
What happened after the game?
Leeds United sacked Bielsa after series of poor performance in the Premier League and his replacement have not been announced.
According to Leeds United statement which reads: “Leeds United can today confirm the club have parted company with head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
“The 66-year-old was in charge of the team for over three-and-a-half years, having taken the reins in June 2018.
“He transformed the club’s fortunes on the pitch, which began with the 3-1 demolition of Stoke City at Elland Road two months later and he led Leeds to the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs in his first full season in charge.
“In his second campaign Bielsa succeeded where those before him had failed, guiding the club to the Sky Bet Championship title, winning the division by 10 points, and resulting in promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.
“On the club’s return to the top-flight, Leeds finished ninth, securing the highest points tally by a newly promoted side in the Premier League since the 2000/01 campaign.
“However, this season has proved to be difficult and the team has recorded just five Premier League wins.”
“Plans for a permanent tribute to Marcelo at Elland Road are under way and more information will be released in due course.”
Meanwhile, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min broke the record for Premier League goal combinations after linking up yet again in Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Leeds United.
Kane laid the ball over the top for Son to score on 85 minutes, taking their all-time goal contributions record to 37 – one ahead of the total managed between Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.
The pair matched Drogba and Lampard’s impressive record in the thrilling 3-2 win away at Manchester City on February 19.
