Barcelona chances of qualifying in the Champions League remain a doubt but Xavi won’t let that be an obstacle ahead of the La Liga match against Real Madrid.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has dropped a motivational message for his team ahead of their clash against Real Madrid in the La Liga.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are on the same points ahead of the El Clasico as three points is important for the teams.
Coming on from a disappointing midweek game against Inter Milan in the Champions League the former Barcelona midfielder stated that his side need to stay focus and not risk the game.
“More muscle is needed, but from the brain, to attack better, be focused, know how to defend, make decisions, get to the opposite field and stop the game and not risk it”, Xavi said.
Despite hopes of qualifying in the Champions League remain a doubt for the Spanish team Xavi believe the team will not be affected by that ahead of the game on Sunday.
“I don’t think there is a mental downturn”, Xavi added. “In the end, we tied the game. And we were able to win it. The team believed and has self-esteem and faith. I see the team involved, with faith, courage… but it didn’t happen.
“We have not competed well. The sensations between this year and the previous one are different. It can be seen in a positive or catastrophic way, I see it in a positive way”.
When asked for the important thing ahead of the El Clasico Xavi responded: “It’s three points, but it’s the morale and the confidence to win a Clásico. It’s vital for us and for Real Madrid. Let’s see who comes out on top. But the project… is still under construction.
“The slump in the Champions League makes us angry , but we are on the right track. We are in a splendid situation in LaLiga. In Europe the score is not good, but the project is under construction and it cannot be destroyed now”
