Ja Morant’s Season Ends Due to Shoulder Injury
Ja Morant’s Season Ends Due to Shoulder Injury; Expected Back for 2024-25 Season
The Memphis Grizzlies’ star point guard Ja Morant will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. The injury occurred during a training session resulting in a subluxation of his right shoulder.
An MRI revealed an underlying labral tear, necessitating surgical intervention. The team anticipates Morant’s full recovery by the start of the 2024-25 season.
Morant, a pivotal player for the Grizzlies, had showcased impressive stats this season, averaging 25.1 points and 8.1 assists over nine games.
However, his absence due to suspension earlier in the season, coupled with this recent injury, has impacted the team’s performance.
The Grizzlies went 6-3 with Morant on the court, mirroring their win total during his previous suspension.
This injury compounds the team’s woes, with another key player, Steven Adams, already out for the season due to a knee injury sustained during the preseason.
Despite their challenges, Morant’s status as a two-time All-Star and a cornerstone of the franchise remains secure, especially with his recently signed five-year, $197 million contract extension.
Currently, the Grizzlies find themselves in 13th place in the Western Conference, sporting a 13-23 record.
Morant’s absence will undoubtedly impact their performance for the remainder of the season, presenting a significant challenge for the team’s aspirations in the league.
