Obi Toppin will have the chance to face Blake Griffin in the opening night of the New York Knicks’ preseason schedule on Friday.

“I’ve been training for this moment for a very long time, and the time is finally here,” Toppin said Friday while speaking to reporters via Zoom. “I’ll have the opportunity to say I’ve been on the court with NBA guys and we’re going to work to get a W today.”
The 8th overall pick of the 2020 draft also talked about peers around the league comparing him to Blake Griffin, who will face tonight in his first career game.
“I’ve been hearing a lot of people compare me to Blake Griffin,” Toppin said. “He’s a great player, competitive and I can’t wait to get on the floor with him and learn in the moment.
“I’m not going to come out and just ask him questions. … He’s a vet, so if he feels that he can give me some pointers while we’re playing, I’m open ears and I’m looking forward to it. But at the same time, we’re competing, we’re trying to both get the W at the end of the day and that’s what it is.”
