Arteta disappointed on missing out on the European League as he claims it will be an advantage for next season.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is disappointed in his team missing out in European competition for next season.

The Gunners side finished 8th in the Premier League with a point behind fellow London Club Tottenham hotspurs.

Arteta previously stated that they will do everything to finish on a positive note, though they beat Brighton but still miss out on European competition.

The UEFA created a new League (Europa Conference League) which is meant for teams that finish 7th in top Europe leagues.

Arsenal would have love to participate in the competition but unfortunately Tottenham book the space.

Tottenham didn’t lose hope as they came from behind to beat FA Cup holder Leicester City who want Champions League spot.

Spurs retain the 7th position ahead of Arsenal and would represent England in the new Europa Conference League.

Speaking to the media after yesterday’s game Arteta stated that: “Well I knew that they were still playing when we came inside. We were following the game. It was in our hands.

“We tried to do our best by winning the last five games, but it wasn’t enough.”

The Spaniard admits disappointment of missing out but claims they need to use it as an advantage next season.

“I’m sad because this club deserves to be delivered trophies and the Champions League. We haven’t managed that.

“It’s very challenging circumstances but we’ve tried to stick together and do our best. It’s not been enough.

“We have to be very critical of ourselves, of myself, and then prepare the best possible way for next season to take advantage of that.

“ Hopefully we can have the pre-season that I haven’t had, and have time to work with those players and try to be a better team.”
