Arteta insists Jesus minute must be managed
Mikel Arteta has told fans not to get too carried away with their expectations on Gabriel Jesus following his successful return to action.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told fans not to get their expectations high with the return of star striker Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian came off the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Fulham in his first appearance for the Gunners since he returned from the World Cup at the end of last year.
But Arteta says they are still managing his minutes carefully following his recovery from knee surgery, and the boss was keen the curb expectations ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League game with Sporting Lisbon.
“It was great to see him back and you can feel the happiness of everybody around him – supporters, players and staff,” Arteta said about Jesus.
“Finally to have him, we missed him, and now he’s back. We have to manage his minutes, we have to manage his involvement in the squad, the team, but he’s feeling good.
“And every day that he’s in training he is saying that the sensations are getting better and better, so that’s really positive.”
On rotating his squad, Arteta added: “We are looking to win, the same that we did in Lisbon, but we’re going to have to do better than what we did in Lisbon to win against Sporting tomorrow.”
