City needs to avoid distraction against the Saints
Pep Guardiola insists his side needs to stay focus against Southampton as last time match will not have impact this time.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that they need to avoid distraction against Southampton in the Premier League.
City’s last Premier League victory came against neighbour Manchester United with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden scoring hattrick.
Manchester City had a huge victory against the Saints last season but Guardiola believes last time result doesn’t matter.
Asked what he expected from Southampton, Pep said: “The same [as previous seasons], a brave team.
“So aggressive and well organised. It doesn’t matter what happened in last games, they have a culture that I like a lot without the ball.
“We need to create a good rhythm. It’s an important fixture for us and we want to get another three points.
“We don’t have time to be distracted, today we prepare and then we play.
“Then we travel again and play another one. The players and backroom staff are just focused on what we have to do.”
Meanwhile, City striker Haaland has been phenomenal for the team scoring lots of goals for the Etihad side.
“Erling has to do his job,” said Pep.
“At every press conference there are 15 questions about Erling. I don’t mind it. We are fortunate because the guys accept it perfectly.
“They are happy to have him because they know they can be better playing alongside him.
“This is why it is a joy to train these players”
