Foden’s ‘back for the best bit’ – Guardiola
Pep Guardiola was upbeat on Phil Foden’s performance, and his importance to the team.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits his midfielder Phil Foden struggled this season but glad he is back to his best after victory over Bristol City in the FA Cup.
Phil Foden scored twice against Bristol City to help his side get victory in the 3-0 win in the Emirate FA cup.
“His career was always up, up, up,” said the Manchester City manager. “This season he struggled a bit and was a bit down. But now he’s back for the best bit of the season.”
And Guardiola added: “I said last week that we don’t have any doubts about him. His impact since he arrived has been flabbergasting. He has been awesome and is getting better and better.
“He has struggled a little bit with the ankle, but he doesn’t complain. He wants to train and he wants to play, even with problems.
“But it’s not about the goal he scored in the last game (at Bournemouth), or the two goals he scored today. It’s about how aggressive he is. Every single action is 100 per cent and at the end it will pay off.”
Meanwhile, Foden stated that it has been a worst part of his career but believes he is fit now.
“I feel much better with my feet,” said Phil Foden, after starting the last three matches for Manchester City in all competitions.
“I feel 100% fit now and comfortable. It has been one of the worst parts of my career but everyone goes through them and it is how you react.
“[The issue was] discomfort in my feet and not playing as much. I love to play football and when I don’t I am a bit frustrated.”
