Dallas Mavericks faced a setback as Kyrie Irving, their prominent guard, sustained an injury when teammate Dwight Powell inadvertently landed on Kyrie foot, forcing him to exit the game early.
During Friday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Dallas Mavericks’ star guard Kyrie Irving faced an injury setback in the second quarter. The incident unfolded when teammate Dwight Powell landed awkwardly on his right foot after a hard fall during gameplay.
The mishap took place with 3:51 remaining in the half as Kyrie was fouled on a drive to the basket. Subsequently, Powell’s attempt to retrieve the loose ball resulted in an unintended collision, causing discomfort to him, who remained on the ground for several minutes, visibly in pain.
Despite managing to rise and take two free throws, Irving opted out of the game, heading straight for the locker room as a precautionary measure. Coach Jason Kidd provided limited information, stating that further details about Irving’s condition would likely surface by Saturday.
The Mavericks swiftly ruled out Irving’s return for the rest of the game. Before his departure, Irving contributed 11 points, displaying an efficient 4-of-6 shooting performance, coupled with two rebounds and two assists, in the team’s 125-112 victory over the Blazers.
