Anthony Joshua Eyes Tyson Fury Showdown Post-Surgery, Considers Dubois and Wilder Fights

Former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, currently sidelined after elbow surgery, is targeting a return to the ring by mid-September 2025, with a potential all-British clash against Tyson Fury at the top of his list.

The 35-year-old’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, revealed Joshua’s plans on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, noting that the two British stars have long circled each other, though Fury’s retirement in January has cast doubt on the matchup.

Fury, who suffered back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 for the undisputed heavyweight title, recently reaffirmed his retirement on Instagram, stating, “I’m in no rush at all to come back boxing, and get my face punched in for what? I’m retired and I’m staying retired.”

Despite this, Hearn remains skeptical, saying, “I just don’t think he’ll be able to leave it alone… he’s still at the peak of his powers and it’s very difficult to walk away from a fight like Anthony Joshua.”

If Fury stays retired, Joshua has other options. He’s keen to rematch Daniel Dubois after a shocking fifth-round knockout loss last September, though that depends on the outcome of Dubois’ upcoming fight with Usyk. Alternatively, a bout with Deontay Wilder could resurface if the 39-year-old American impresses in his June fight against Tyrrell Herndon.

Hearn noted, “If Wilder comes back and looks sensational, we’ll probably start talking about it again… It’s always going to be an exciting fight.”

Joshua, expected to fight once this year, remains in a strategic position as Hearn monitors the heavyweight landscape.
