Jurrien Timber’s Future Hangs in the Balance as Liverpool Joins Race for Ajax Defender

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly interested in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, with the 21-year-old keeping his options open. Timber’s potential move to Manchester United fell through last year, and Liverpool’s pursuit may be delayed due to their focus on rebuilding the midfield.

Amidst speculation linking Ajax defender Jurrien Timber with a move to Liverpool, the 21-year-old is keeping his options open. While Jurgen Klopp’s main focus this summer is rebuilding the midfield, Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Liverpool manager is also interested in acquiring a new left-sided center-back.

Timber, a Netherlands international, was reportedly a target for Manchester United last year. However, the deal fell through as Ajax coach Erik ten Hag signed Lisandro Martinez from his former club and Ajax refused to let another center-back leave in the same transfer window.

Romano indicates that Manchester United could revisit their interest in Timber this summer, especially considering the uncertainties surrounding Harry Maguire’s future. Nevertheless, Liverpool has now entered the race for his signature.

Given Liverpool’s need to strengthen their central midfield, Timber may have to exercise patience in waiting for an offer from Liverpool. Additionally, his long-term contract with Ajax could complicate any potential transfer.

The player himself has not committed to a future with the Dutch giants, who finished third in the Eredivisie this season.
